Fascination

Namibia

Surprisingly versatile - go on a voyage of discovery.

Namibia, a fascinating country in southern Africa, inspires with its rich history and breathtaking landscapes. Human settlement dates back to the Stone Age, as evidenced by numerous archaeological sites. Since independence from South Africa in 1990, the population has been growing steadily and is ethnically very diverse. The largest ethnic groups are the Ovambo, Kavango, Herero and Damara, which is a wonderful reflection of the country’s cultural diversity.

Politically, Namibia is a presidential democracy with a unicameral system. Political stability has prevailed since independence and elections are regular, peaceful and transparent. The current political situation is stable, with a government that promotes economic growth and social development. Namibia has a good reputation in terms of human rights and freedom of the press, which makes the country an attractive destination for international investment.

Finances

Namibia’s official currency is the Namibian dollar (NAD), which is pegged to the South African rand (ZAR) at a ratio of 1:1. This peg ensures stability and facilitates trade with South Africa, Namibia’s most important trading partner.

The Namibian economy is one of the fastest growing in Africa and is based on mining, agriculture, fishing and tourism. The mining of diamonds and uranium plays a central role in the country’s economy. In recent years, Namibia has increasingly endeavoured to diversify its economy in order to promote sustainable growth. The government particularly supports small and medium-sized enterprises and foreign direct investment.

National parks such as the Etosha National Park are home to an abundance of wildlife, including elephants, lions, rhinos and numerous bird species. The climate ranges from desert in the west to subtropical in the north-east, making Namibia a country of contrasts and natural wonders.
